When I first began building this website, I have to admit, I was not too fond about “blogging”. I began wondering if I am “trendy” enough to even know what that means. However, then I thought, wait a minute, you are always encouraging your athletes to write and express themselves in a journal…”why not give it a go?!” Albeit this does not offer the privacy that one’s journal can, as a matter of fact it is the complete opposite of that. I calmed myself by thinking about what I could expect to gain from such a venture, the first thing that comes to mind, is this is a lovely way for us to embark on a journey together of self-expression and communication. So here we are!
I have always enjoyed writing, especially in my more youthful years. I found great solace and freedom in writing short stories and poems, there was something back then about putting pen to paper (yes, those days were real) and letting your reverie ponderings come to life. There is indeed something absolutely therapeutic in writing. As I mentioned before, I often encourage my athletes to keep a journal, you may wonder, what’s so special about that?! Well, let’s look at a few of its benefits. Journalling assists in identifying patterns in training and performance, boosts motivation, improves focus, increases self-monitoring and self-regulation, not to mention it provides an opportunity for venting and so much more. The truth is, journalling is not just helpful for athletes, but it can also be a helpful tool and strategy for anyone who needs to tackle some everyday problems in a simple, but effective manner. Sometimes, it is just easier for us to write than to talk, especially when we may tend to feel somewhat overwhelmed with life and all that is happening around us.
I would like to encourage you to make some time for jotting your thoughts and feelings down, slow things down a bit. It has been somewhat hectic for the past couple of years, there is no denying that, we could all use some more “stress free” moments or our own truly “safe zone”. While we’re at it, how about we encourage each other to pick up a good book, get cosy and get ready for some mental exploration, stimulation and restoration, now doesn’t that sound amazing?! I may not be sure what direction this blog may take, but feel free to connect with me and let me know, if there is anything that you would love reading about or discussing. Now then, where’d I put that book I was reading? Time for me to get lost in a literary world as I hope you will too and I also hope to hear from you soon and remember if there is something you want to say..”Let’s blog about it!”
