I am Dr. Kamasha Robertson-Martens, a small island, Caribbean lady who was brought up surrounded by sport and extremely passionate about it. My family and I happily engaged in a lot of sports such as cricket, football, netball, tennis, and track and field to name a few, as most islanders do. I began playing badminton at the age of 11 and fell in love. I would then go on to represent my country as a junior and a senior athlete for several years at the elite level. When I first began playing at the international level, I had difficulty performing to my desired level due to negative affectations from anxiety and low self-confidence.

At that time, I was unaware of what was transpiring with me, but I always felt that there should have been someone with the necessary skill set to assist me. Thus, began my interest in sport psychology and sport sciences in general. I was determined to gain as much knowledge possible, so that I could help other athletes who are experiencing difficulties in achieving their goals. I am also a Badminton World Federation (BWF) accredited umpire who has experience officiating at some of the world’s highest and best tournaments. In other words, I live for sports!

Today I am a two-time scholar (national sports and Commonwealth) who holds a Masters Degree in Applied Sport and Exercise Psychology and a Doctorate in Health Sciences. I also have over 10 years of experience in the field of applied sport and exercise psychology working with international clientele, which includes all levels of athletes, coaches, and clubs from a diverse background of sports. Additionally, I have over five years of research experience in the field of movement and sports sciences, particularly in motor control and learning, with emphasis on talent identification in sports, with a focus on measuring characteristics such as: anthropometric, physical performance, motor coordination, psychology, executive functions, anticipation and decision-making in sports (special emphasis on badminton and racquet sports). Check out my publications here.

I am based in Belgium, but not limited to helping clients from all over the world in any capacity needed. My native language is English, but I am also fluent in Spanish and speak Dutch at an intermediate level. I look forward to making a meaningful contribution to you and/ or your establishment or federation whether it be through mental skills training or from a sports science perspective to help you enhance your performance, soar to new heights and become more ‘resolute’ in all your endeavours!
